Setting up Metered Electricity
What is Metered Electricity?
Metered electricity is a feature that lets you charge guests for the exact amount of electricity they use during their stay.
Why Use Metered Electricity?
- Save money: Only charge for what guests actually use
- Be fair: Guests who use less electricity pay less
- Encourage conservation: Guests might use less when they know they're paying for it
How to Set It Up:
- Go to Settings
- Click on "Settings" in the main menu
- Click on the "Extras" tab
- Add New Extra
- Type a name like "Metered Electric"
- Click the "Metered" option
- Set Your Rate
- Enter how much you want to charge per unit (like $0.12)
- Type in the unit name (like "kwh" for kilowatt-hour)
- Save It
Using Metered Electricity:
- Making a Reservation
- When you make a new reservation you can add this extra . The add on will display the rate you configured
- Editing a Reservation
- You can enter in a value for the "Start" field. We recommend using a value of 1.0 for the Start field
- When a Guest is Checking Out
- Enter in a value into the "End" field. Lets say they used 5.0 units
OpenCampground Does the Math
Example:
- You charge $0.12 per unit
- Start was 1.0, end was 5.0
- Guest used 4 units (5.0 - 1.0 = 4.0)
- Guest owes $0.48 (4 units x $0.12 per unit)
Remember:
- Always check the meter at check-in and check-out
- Explain to guests how metered electricity works
- Make sure your rate per unit covers your costs
