Understanding the OpenCampground System Fee
What Is the System Fee?
The System Fee or Platform Fee is a per-reservation charge that applies to reservations processed through OpenCampground.
Fee Structure
System Fee rates are tiered based on your annual reservation volume:
- Rates can vary based on customer and volume. Please contact our support team for details
When System Fees Apply (Updated June 4th 2025)
- Newly Created Reservations
- Cancelled reservations (past 24hrs)
When System Fees Do Not Apply
- Reservations that are cancelled within 24hrs
- No additional fee for minor changes:
- Site changes
- Adjustments to arrival or departure dates
- Extensions.
Billing and Payment
Monthly Billing Process
- System Fees are calculated at the end of each month
- Fees are included in your monthly invoice
- Payment is due within 15 days
- If you have a payment method on file, you'll be charged automatically
Volume Tier Calculation
Volume tiers are based on your total annual reservation count. As you move into higher volume tiers, the lower rate automatically applies to all additional reservations in that tier.
For Existing Subscription Customers
Subscription Credits
If you've already paid for a subscription beyond May 1st, 2025:
- Any unused portion will be automatically calculated
- This amount will be applied as a credit toward future System Fees
- Credits will appear on monthly invoices until fully utilized
Minimizing System Fees
Recommended Strategies
- Use integrated payment processing: Eliminates the System Fee on all credit card transactions
- Consider a guest booking fee: Many campgrounds add a small booking or service fee (typically $2-3) to guest reservations
- Pass fees to guests: By passing both the System Fee and credit card processing fee to guests during checkout, OpenCampground can be a no-cost solution
Tracking and Reporting
Monthly Reports
Each month, you'll receive a detailed report showing:
- Total number of reservations created
- Breakdown by payment method
- System Fees applied
- Any credits used
- Remaining credit balance (if applicable)
